Letters of Support

We have received many letter of support - please visit our support page here to view a selection.

We also received this great statement from RCN Scotland - used in the Herald piece mentioned in the below post.

Ellen Hudson, Associate Director, Royal College of Nursing (RCN) Scotland said:

“The demand for newly qualified nurses from Glasgow University is extremely high and this reflects the high calibre of their nursing programmes. Not only that, the Nursing School has an excellent reputation for research and is currently funded to carry out research for Macmillan Cancer Support, the Chest, Heart and Stroke Association and the MS Society.

“Losing a nursing education provider like Glasgow University’s Nursing School could mean a lack of overall capacity to deliver pre-registration and post-registration education for nurses in the future, and could also result in the loss of expertise of staff. The Scottish Government’s Chief Nursing Officer is leading a review of nursing and midwifery education in Scotland, beginning in May, so we would urge the University to delay any decision about the future of its Nursing School until the review is complete.

“The RCN will support staff and students affected by the proposed closure, and we are involved in the current consultation on the proposal. It is essential that we have a highly educated and skilled nursing workforce to continue to provide safe and effective patient care in the future.”

THEIR JOBS ARE OUR EDUCATION

University Management is trying to push through a consultation process where they set the form, the terms, and the subjects under threat. Many staff and students see this as unfair, undemocratic, and bullying.

Staff sitting on University senate, the democratic body at Glasgow University, have requested an emergency meeting on Friday 18th March.

Students are planning to meet at 12pm on the 18th at University Gardens to march over to the University Gates in support of the senate and the staff!

More details on facebook here . . .

Also there is a discussion in the Student Room regarding current applications - keep the good quality applications coming in!
